History

2010-2020

Abundant Life Christian Ministries (ALCM) was organized by then Rev. E. Jean Brockington, in early 2008, in the back office of her real estate company, Optimum Homes, Inc. The church originally started as Derek Anthony Moore Charity, Inc. (DAMCI)’s Faith and Works Ministries Spiritual Development Study Group which met weekly at Optimum Homes. People were hungry to be taught the word of God in an environment where they could study the word, ask questions, discuss the word, and apply the word of God to their lives. As the Faith and Works Study Group studied the word of God, people were truly learning and developing spiritually.

In the early part of 2010, the Lord placed it on Rev. Brockington’s heart to come out of the back room of Optimum Homes and form a church. With much prayer and while listening to the Lord, the name of the Faith and Works Study Group was changed to Abundant Life Christian Ministries. Then there was the pursuit for a church home. As resources were low and not immediately forthcoming, Rev. Brockington, followed the Holy Spirit and moved her business office to a larger vacant suite to accommodate renting space to the church. Rev. Brockington’s business office and ALCM relocated to: 4200 Forbes Boulevard, Suite 103, Lanham, MD.

As Rev. Brockington continued to pursue the fullness of God’s calling, she was ordained in the Baptist Church in August 2010 by then Rev. Michael C. Turner, Sr., Senior Pastor of The Miracle Center of Faith Missionary Baptist Church, Capitol Heights, Maryland, in preparation to answer God’s call to the pastorate ministry. Rev. Brockington became Pastor-Elect and along with some of the founding members and friends poured in personal resources to furnish the sanctuary.

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, the first public service as ALCM was held. There were 10 original founders: Rev. E. Jean Brockington, Calvin Brockington, Jessie H. Jackson, Stan Smith, Rev. Loyce Smith, Rev. Dr. Condie Clayton, Eudora Clayton, Shawn Jones, Mother Blondell Brockington, and Warren Brockington. Eight persons joined on that day Erica Starnes, Benjamin Smith, Justin Haynes Smith, Vernon Jones, Jr., Marcus Canty, Tony Bryant, Jr., Brian Bryant and Shirley Bryant Lanier-Smith, for a total membership of 18.

On Sunday, December 5, 2010, Rev. E. Jean Brockington was officially installed as the Pastor of Abundant Life Christian Ministries. During the formative phase, the ministerial staff consisted of Rev. Dr. Condie M. Clayton and Rev. Loyce E. Smith. Sis. Jessie Jackson was appointed as a Deacon-in-Training and Sis. Shawn Jones was appointed as Stewardess-in-Training, and the praise and worship ministry (choir) consisted of Sis. Shawn Jones and Bro. Vernon Jones, and other friends and family.

As we grew, other family, friends, and neighbors joined ALCM. Soon after, Bro. Stan Smith was appointed as Deacon-in-Training and other persons joined the choir. Most members served in various rolls to assure the operation of the Church. Also, we were blessed with church trustees to assure the church was clean, presentable, and safe. To God be all the Glory for how He sustained ALCM, because we truly walked by faith and not by sight.

God has blessed ALCM through the vision of our Pastor. The church’s purpose statement is: “We are a great church, serving a great God, committed to His great commandment (Matt. 22:37-39), to carry out His great commission (Matt. 28:19-20). The members of ALCM and Pastor Brockington stand on the word of God that “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all you mind. This is greatest and first commandment.” And the second is like it: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets” (Matt. 22:37-39).

Abundant Life Christian Ministries is continuing its efforts to be “The Church with a Mission”, committed to share the Good News and follow the Will of God. God has blessed us with numerous souls who have been won for Christ and baptized since 2010. Many persons have also united in membership by Christian experience. New and reorganized groups have become a part of the church ministries. Since the inception of ALCM, we have established 17 ministries, including an Audio Ministry to record services. In addition to offering the right hand of fellowship to more than 150 members to date, we have ordained 7 Deacons, Jessie Jackson, Stan Smith, Shawn Jones, Gloria Miles, Kenneth Tony Carr, Jr., Calvin Brockington (First Man), and Sylvia Joseph. We have also ordained 4 Ministers and 2 Elders, Rev. Shirley Bryant Lanier-Smith, Rev. Christopher Tobias, Rev. Darlene Canty, Rev. Charles Kimbrow, Jr., Elder Delbra Thomas, and Elder Chante Thompson.

In late September 2020, God blessed the Abundant Life family to purchase and own a building at 11660 Annapolis Road, Glenn Dale, Maryland for its future church home. “TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR THE GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE!!!”
